IGNOU to Start 4 New Certificate Courses in Bihar From July 2019

Regional office of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is ready to start four new medical and health certificate courses at Nalanda Medical College & Hospital – Patna, Anugraha Narayan Magadha Medical College & Hospital – Gaya, Jawaharlal Nehru College – Bhagalpur and Shri Krishna Medical College & Hospital-Muzaffarpur with new academic session from July 2019.

The University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MHFW) for six-month skill-based certificate courses, which includes General Duty Assistance, Geriatric Care Assistance, Phlebotomy Assistance and Home Health Assistance. A Skill Training Cell will also be made at IGNOU’s Regional Office.

Abhilash Nayak, Regional Director of IGNOU-Patna, told this on Tuesday that the MoU for 10 certificate courses was signed, but only four will start from July 2019.

There will be 30 seats in each of the four medical colleges in each course. “Eligibility criteria for all courses is an intermediate degree (biology). We will soon announce the date of delivery and submission of application forms, ” Nayak said.

Students will be assessed at the end of the term. Each course will focus on the theoretical portion (30 hours) at IGNOU-Patna’s study centre as well as practicals (80 hours) at the medical colleges along with a monthlong internship in hospitals.

Nayak said, “The study material package, which includes books, practical manuals, logbooks, audio-video study materials, web-board discussions, teleconferencing and assignments, has been developed by the School of Health Sciences, IGNOU head office.”
