Now, Create Your Own Street View On Google Maps Using Your Android Phone or A DSLR Camera...

Want to show your friends from the other town how it feels like to take a walk across your neighbourhood? Google will now let you build your own Street View experiences using Google’s Photo Sphere technology for Android phones and DSLR cameras.
In a postannouncing the feature, Evan Rapoport, Product Manager, Google Maps & Photo Sphere wrote in the Google Latlong blog that using a new feature in Maps’ View community, you will be able to connect your photo spheres to create 360-degree virtual tours and share them on Google Maps. You can create photo spheres using your Android phone or a DSLR and share them.
You will then need to select photo spheres from your profile and use Google’s new tool to connect them together and publish to Google Maps. Users will be able to navigate between them just like they can on Street View. Check out an example of this map made by Rapaport:
Views: Dunluce Castleby Evan Rapoport
When the tool is used to make a custom Street View experience, you can make use of pretty much all markers you’ve been used to seeing in regular Street View images. The drag handles, point gestures and even clicking on the farthest point of a picture are all still available for your private experience just like they are on Street View. “We are excited to see the different types of Street View experiences that everyone will contribute. For example, this feature can now enable environmental non-profits to document and promote the beautiful places they strive to protect. It also opens up a new tool for photographers to showcase diversity in a specific location -- by times of day, weather conditions or cultural events -- in a way that Street View currently doesn’t cover,” Rapoport writes.
If you have a business, this tool will come very handy. It will allow to embed your interactive maps onto your websites or even build apps with it using the Google Maps API.

Twitter to soon be accessible on mobiles without Internet in emerging markets...

Twitter Inc is tying up with a Singapore-based startup to make its 140-character messaging service available to users in emerging markets who have entry-level mobile phones which cannot access the Internet.
U2opia Mobile, which has a similar tie-up with FacebookInc, will launch its Twitter service in the first quarter of next year, Chief Executive and Co-founder Sumesh Menon told Reuters.
Users will need to dial a simple code to get a feed of the popular trending topics on Twitter, he said.
More than 11 million people use U2opia's Fonetwish service, which helps access Facebook and Google Talkon mobile without a data connection.
Twitter, which boasts of about 230 million users, held a successful initial public offering last month that valued the company at around $25 billion.
U2opia uses a telecom protocol named USSD, or Unstructured Supplementary Service Data, which does not allow viewing of pictures, videos or other graphics.
"USSD as a vehicle for Twitter is almost hand in glove because Twitter has by design a character limit, it's a very text-driven social network," Menon said.
Eight out of 10 people in emerging markets are still not accessing data on their phone, he said.
U2opia, which is present in 30 countries in seven international languages, will localize the Twitter feed according to the location of the user.
"So somebody in Paraguay would definitely get content that would be very very localized to that market vis a vis somebody sitting in Mumbai or Bangalore," he said.
The company, whose biggest markets are Africa and South America, partners with telecom carriers such as Telenor, Vodafone and Bharti Airtel Ltd. U2opia usually gets 30 to 40 percent of what users pay its telecom partners to access Fonetwish.
"For a lot of end users in the emerging markets, it's going to be their first Twitter experience," Menon said.

Twitter starts cookie-based targeted advertising with 'promoted tweets'...

Twitter on Thursday launched a new form of targeted advertising, allowing companies to deliver " promoted tweets" to customers who show interest in the brand through Web browsing.
The new service called "tailored audiences," is now available globally, as "a new way for advertisers to define your own groups of existing and potential customers, and connect with them on Twitter with relevant messages," the company said.
Twitter, which previewed the service in July, will be able to match advertisers and customers who have visited that company's website, without necessarily clicking on a Twitter link.
"With tailored audiences you can reach users on Twitter who have shown interest in your brand or your category even away from Twitter," product manager Abhishek Shrivastava said in a blog post.
"Let's say a hotel brand wants to advertise a promotion on Twitter and they'd prefer to show their ad to travel enthusiasts who have recently visited their website. To get the special offer to those people who are also on Twitter, the hotel brand may share with us browser-related information (browser cookie ID) through an ads partner. We can then match that information to Twitter accounts."
He said this will result in "a highly relevant and useful message for the user," and will continue to allow advertisers to know how many users saw or clicked on an ad, without identifying the individuals.
Twitter noted that these types of ads would be blocked for users who opt to use "do not track" settings on their browsers which block the delivery of the text files known as cookies.
Shrivastava said Twitter has seen "impressive results from those advertisers in our beta tests from partners including Delta Air Lines.
"We're excited about the possibilities that tailored audiences will open up for marketers with direct response objectives," he added.
Twitter raised some $1.8 billion in its initial public offering last month, despite doubts about its ability to generate profits after years of losses. This program is among several aimed at monetizing the popular messaging platform with more than 200 million users.
Twitter separately announced the appointment of its first woman board memberin a gender breakthrough at the globally popular one-to-many messaging service.
London publishing executive Marjorie Scardino has been named as the eighth board member of the San Francisco-based company.
"Thank you," 66-year-old Scardino said in a message fired off at her @marjscar Twitter account. "There couldn't be a more exciting time in Twitter's history to join."

Facebook updates News Feed to display more news...

Facebook is boosting its efforts to put more news in its News Feed.
That is, real news from the news media, rather than status updates from friends.
The world's biggest social network, cognizant of its growing importance for discovering news, said in a blog post on Monday that it is revising the way it delivers information to its billion-plus users.
"People use Facebookto share and connect, including staying current on the latest news, whether it's about their favourite celebrity or what's happening in the world," said the blog post from Facebook engineering manager Varun Kacholia and software engineer Minwen Ji.
"We've noticed that people enjoy seeing articles on Facebook, and so we're now paying closer attention to what makes for high quality content, and how often articles are clicked on from News Feed on mobile. What this means is that you may start to notice links to articles a little more often (particularly on mobile)."
The blog noted that "our surveys show that on average people prefer links to high quality articles about current events, their favourite sports team or shared interests, to the latest meme."
And Facebook will tweak the way its displays articles in user News Feeds: "This means that high quality articles you or others read may show up a bit more prominently in your News Feed, and meme photos may show up a bit less prominently," the engineers wrote.
They added that Facebook will also "show people additional articles similar to ones they had just read."
"Soon, after you click on a link to an article, you may see up to three related articles directly below the News Feed post to help you discover more content you may find interesting," they said.
But to avoid diminishing the updates from friends, Facebook will revise its "bumping," which means that after a user reads an article it may not show up again in the News Feed unless there are new comments from friends.
A study earlier this year showed Facebook is becoming a key source of news for users of the huge social network, even if people discover articles mostly by happenstance.
The study by the Pew Research Center, in collaboration with the Knight Foundation, found 64 percent of US adults use Facebook, and nearly half of those get some news from the service. That amounts to 30 percent of the overall US population who are "Facebook news consumers," Pew said.
Facebook reported in October that referral traffic from the social network to media sites has increased by over 170 percent over the past year.

Google plans to put an end to user-generated passwords...

Security experts often complain about obvious and poorly created passwords by users. To avoid user-generated passwords and ensure further security to data, Google now plans on a new security system altogether called U2F or Universal 2nd Factor, reports Forbes. With this new system, users will have to use a USB dongle called YubiKey Neo, designed and built to Google’s specifications by security expert Yubico.
The YubiKey Neo is reportedly a small, durable and driverless device that doesn’t require a battery. On plugging it into the computer’s USB port, it adds a second and highly secure layer of verification when you start accessing Gmail or Google Docs account on the Chrome OS. The login can be initiated by keying in a username and pin, and the browser will then communicate directly with the YubiKey Neo using encrypted data and authorise account access. YubiKey Neo and Google’s Chrome browser will engage in secure public-key encryption when you log in.
Anyone who wants to access the account will require the YubiKey Neo as well as the four-digit pin. Google calls YubiKey Neo “a digital key that is based on the smart card devices”, which is preferred by the military. Currently, several hundred thousand YubiKey Neo devices are now being used by employees. However, U2F logins are not available for the public yet.
Google’s Product Management Director for Information Security, Sam Srinivas said, “With U2F, we are not starting from scratch with an unproven system. We are building on protocols that have been proven in government and enterprise environments over the past few decades. The technologies behind smart cards have been the gold-standard for the security industry. What we are working on is adapting them to align with consumer needs.”
Google had joined the FIDO (Fast IDentity Online) Alliance, an industry standard that works towards effective, easy-to-use, open source solutions for Internet security, last year. On joining FIDO Alliance, Google published its U2F specification as an open standard. However, the search giant understands that the system must be implemented across a broad range of consumer products and services. It will have to create a viable ecosystem of web browsers, apps and hardware authentication devices supporting the protocol so that users can securely access content from mobile and desktop, be it shopping, financial or social sites.
The one-step authentication means, one doesn’t have to remember several passwords. A single four-digit PIN can be used on every site. The YubiKey Neo is the first U2F-certified hardware device, but FIDO Alliance members expect competition from other manufacturers in form of chips embedded into new computers and biometric-scanning devices and more.
Reportedly, no personal information will be stored on the YubiKey and no one will be able to determine the individual sites that the device has been configured to work with. Moreover, it’s a physical device, so you’ll easily know when it goes missing. For mobile devices, the YubiKey Neo is currently limited to compatibility with NFC-enabled smartphones. However, the team is working on bringing it to non-NFC devices.

Simple Tweaks to Make Firefox Faster...

Mozilla Firefox has attained quite a bit of popularity in the recent years. Although most of the Firefox versions are fast, few tweaks can make it even faster and still maintain the quality and performance. Following are some of the easy, but popular tweaks of Firefox that would help you to make Firefox faster than ever.
Enable Network Pipelining
Naturally, the browsers are very gracious. They send a request to the servers and then wait for the response to continue.
Simple Tweaks to Make Firefox Faster
Network pipelining is an adamant method that allows Firefox to send several requests to reduce the page loading time & will make firefox faster.
Go through the following steps to enable Network Pipelining
*.Type “about: config” in the browser’s address box and hit Enter.
*.Find “network.http.pipelining” click twice on it, in order to change the option to ‘True’.
*.Do same with “ network.http.p roxy.pipelining”
*.Find and click twice on “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” and change its value to 8 (The default value would be 4).
Remember that, not every server supports pipelining. So, it can eventually diminish the performance of the browser. Simply, set the “ network.http.proxy.pipelining” and “network.http.pipelining” to ‘False’ in case of any problem.

Tweak for Faster Loading
Firefox sometimes enters into a low frequency interruption mode and becomes less responsive. You cannot even move the mouse or type with your keyboard for a while. It is nothing but the content switch threshold but the page tends to load more swiftly. Decreasing the content switch threshold could ultimately pick up the performance & your firefox will load faster.
*.Go to “about: config” page
*.Now, right click and then choose New, then Integer.
*.Enter “content.switch.threshold” in the box and hit OK. Now, type 250000 in the next box and hit OK to save.

Enhance the cache limit
When you surf on the web, the Firefox saves scripts and images of websites in the local memory cache. It is then quickly retrieved when you visit the same website again. If your PC has enough RAM (normally 2 GB or more), you can increase the cache limit to decrease the page loading time and increase the performance.
*.Go to “about:config” page
*.Right click and select New, then Integer.
*.Type in “browser.cache.memory.capacity” and click on OK button.
*.Type ‘65536’ in the next box and OK.
Now, restart Firefox and get bigger cache memory.

Use TraceMonkey
Mozilla Firefox has introduced a new feature called “TraceMonkey”, which converts the slower JavaScript in super fast x 86 modes. By this, you can run specific functions incredibly faster. It is still in the Beta mode and has few bugs. Hence, it is not yet available on the Firefox download site. If you like to take risks on your own, try this out by following method.
Install and run the latest version of nightly. Type “about: config” in the address box and hit Enter. Find and double twice on “javascript.options.jit.content” and “javascript.options.jit.chrome “. Alter values to True and done. You are now running the high-speed JavaScript engine in your Firefox.
If you are having any problem comment here..
Always happy to help you.. :)
